Domain Name Tips

Choosing a domain name is one of the most important steps in building a website for your business. Just like your business name, logo, and branding, it is what your customers will remember you by and something you don’t want to change very often, if at all. It is best to keep confusion at a minimum for your clients and customers and if you are changing your domain name often, confusion is what will take place. Follow these simple tips for choosing an effective and memorable domain name for your business that will last for years to come.

Stick with a .com domain if possible: There are many options out there for domains (.biz, .tv, etc.) but the most commonly recognized and trusted types of domains are .com, .net, or .org. It gives your business an established feel like you’ve been here all along and are dominating the market versus coming into the market too late and being stuck with what you got.

Be Bold Yet Simple: By keeping your domain name self-explanatory and simple, you are naturally helping your SEO. Too many words, dashes, and details crowd up your domain name and you don’t want to complicate things. If www.yourbusinessname.com is already taken, try www.yourbusinessnameindustry.com, www.yourbusinessnamelocation.com, or www.whatyousell.com for alternatives.

Don’t Wait: Own your domain or somebody else will. There are roughly 138 million registered domain names out there (the number is growing every minute) and if you don’t grab the name you want, somebody else will grab it for themselves. As soon as you decide on your domain name, visit www.checkdomain.com to make sure it is available. If it is, buy it. Immediately.
