Over 50% of Businesses in 2014 Don’t Have a Website

In 2014, it’s hard to imagine any business not having a website to advertise their products or services. This is especially shocking in the era of online searches and a diminishing need for the clunky ole’ phonebook that people once used.

When looking at this percentage, it’s only fair to assume that there are a few reasons for this.

  1. Brand New BusinessesWhen a survey showed that 50% of businesses don’t have a website, this number is also including brand new businesses that just registered as an entity. So it’s safe to assume that a lot of these brand new businesses will invest in an online presence as they uproot their business plan.
  2. Start-up Cost – Lack of Understanding OptionsBeing that a large number of businesses are brand new, lots of these guys don’t have the cash flow to afford a website. With that being said, they still have plenty of more affordable (in some cases free) website choices if they need something simple and pretty basic.
  3. Old “Ma and Pa” shopsSurprising as it is, there have been many businesses in business for 30+ years who have done exceptionally well without a website. So lots of these types of owners don’t see the urgency in investing in a website. Truth is, a website is not only vital in today’s business world, but it can only improve ones marketing efforts. This applies to even these types of businesses who have seen much success without a www.

A website should be a piece of your marketing strategy regardless of what type of business you own. There are plenty of choices for implementing an online presence, many of which are basic and affordable, others that are more advanced and custom.
