Updating Your Website – Explained

Want to update your current WordPress website with important information about your business?  If you want to make sure your website accurately reflects your offerings at all times, you’ll need to update it periodically. This is true for businesses of all sizes who want to attract and keep their customers informed.

At Thrive Web Designs, we understand that things can change over time, and information may need to be updated or corrected. While certain things like overall design and function should be left to a professional, updating the information on your pages and posts is an essential skill you should master in today’s technological world.

Here’s why:

  • If you know how to update your pages and posts, you will save time and money. You won’t have to hire or wait on a developer to update the information on your website for you.
  • You’ll effectively stay ahead of the competition because you’ll be able to update your website yourself with important information, offerings, etc.

With that being said, the most important piece of the puzzle here is that you can easily learn how to create something new or update existing information about your business all on your own. In the video above, we’ll walk you through how to make simple updates to the WordPress site that we’ve developed. These include:

  • Editing, saving, and publishing new posts or pages.
  • Viewing changes on the front end.
  • Using formatting tools in the WPBakery Page Builder.

Pages Vs. Posts

Posts

Posts are essentially regularly updated pieces of content that you publish on your website’s blog and share to social media accounts, etc. They are a wonderful way to boost SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and get your business found at the top of the first page of search results on Google. Posts can also be sorted into different categories and tags so customers can search for specific information you’ve shared with ease.

Pages

In contrast to posts, pages are more permanent fixtures of your website. Examples include your Home, About, and Contact pages. Within WordPress, pages look very similar to posts, although there are a few differences. For example, pages don’t have tags or categories. They can, however, be organized into hierarchies using your main menu. An example of this would be a submenu beneath a listed page on your main menu.

How to Maintain Both

Updating your website doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out task, and luckily with our easy-to-use page layout tool installed on all of our WordPress sites, this makes small edits and changes a breeze. This video will walk you through the very basics of making a page update which includes: Logging into your website, differentiating between pages and posts, explaining how the page editor tools work, how to make a text update, and adding images.

After watching, feel free to reach out to our team with additional questions, and we’ll be happy to assist. Moving forward, we’ll be providing lots of video content in our resource library to help support our clients!
